Accommodations & Services

Student discussion

At the start of each semester please meet with the Coordinator to discuss your needs for the semester. Current documentation must be on file at the Disability Services office to be eligible for accommodations. Below is a list of the accommodations that are used the most.

Testing Accommodations

50 or 100% extended time and a testing environment with minimal distractions.

Note Takers

A copy of the classroom notes can be provided to students by peer note takers.

Textbooks on CD

Books can be provided in audio, large print, or electronic format. Students can borrow software that will provide a visual and auditory version of a textbook or other material.

Foreign Language Substitution

If a student is unable to learn a foreign language because of a disability, they may request to take another course, such as sign language, in order to fulfill the foreign language requirement. The impact of the disability on learning a foreign language must be well documented and the substitution cannot significantly alter the student’s academic program.

Professor Notification

In many situations, information provided by Disability Services to a professor will open a dialogue with the office, student, and professor so that appropriate accommodations can be discussed and implemented.

Appropriate documentation

Information from a doctor must be provided to be eligible for services and reasonable accommodations. Documentation must be no older than three years when entering the University. It must include a diagnosis of a disability and describe the functional limitations caused by it. Guidelines for documentation of a learning disability or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can be found at: www.ets.org/disability/index.html.

Requesting accommodations and services

It is the student’s responsibility to identify his or her disability and request accommodations. Once documentation is on file at the Disability Services the student must meet with the Coordinator at the start of each semester to request services.
